Recent Gun Battle in Imo State, Herdsmen vs Vigilante (Operation Lion Walk)

There was terror in Owaelu, Orji in Owerri North Local Government of Imo State on Monday. 

Indigenes of the Owaelu community took to their heels when members of vigilante in the community and herdsmen reportedly clashed.

An eyewitness said that the incident occurred in the community around 21:30 on Monday. Said there was gun shots against the two parties targeting each other. 

It was also gathered that some villagers has to run to neighboring communities for their safety. According to the eye witness narrating the incident, said the community Vigilantes overpowered the Herdsmen which made them run away. 

Another eye witness claimed they were planned resettling in Orji before they were confronted by vigilantes in the area, adding that they are same Herdsmen that was chased away from a neighbouring community earlier. 

National President of Igbo National Council (INC) Chilos Godsent, who confirmed the incident, said the herdsmen were subdued due to awareness created by INC which introduced the “Operation Lion Walk” in the community.

Imo Police image maker, Orlando Ikeokwu, said he would get back when contacted by The Nation.

But he hasn’t got back as at the time of filing this report.

The goodnews is that nobody was reported hurt in the gun battle.
