5 Common Habits That Are Killing Your Brain Without Your Knowledge




The brain is one of the vital organs of the body that should be protected at all costs.

However, did you know that there are common habits that we daily indulge in that can cause severely harm to our brains?

Well, here are some of these habits that should be avoided at all costs, in a bid to protect your brain;

Not getting enough sleep

Some people are guilty of this. They sleep for as little as 4 hours or less, for reasons best known to them.

However, what you may not know is being sleep deprived can severely damage your brain, by impairing your memory.

The part of the brain that suffers as a result of lack of sleep is called the hippocampus.

Therefore, every time you sleep deprive yourself, the hippocampus gets affected, which might affect your ability to memorize things.



Playing loud music via earphones

We all know jamming to loud music via headphones or earphones might damage your hearing abilities.

However, what many may not know is it can also kill your brain by causing memory loss and damage brain tissue.

Exposing your brain to high volumes puts pressure on your brain and in the long run alters how your brain processes.

Therefore, if you don't want to affect your speech, lower down that volume.



Not drinking enough water and skipping breakfast


Dehydration is another cause of brain damage. Depriving your brain water might be detrimental to your brain as it causes your brain to shrink in volume, slowing down your focus, and at times causing severe headaches.

Therefore, for better functioning of your brain and body, normalize drinking 8 glasses of water per day.

Skipping breakfast on the other is a dangerous habit as it denies your brain vital nutrients.

Not taking breakfast in the morning leads to low sugar/ glucose levels which greatly affects how the brain functions.

That's why you find children who take breakfast in the morning perform better in school than those who don't.


Covering your head while sleeping

Sleeping while covering your head is undoubtedly a warm and cozy feeling that makes sleep sweeter.

However, covering your head increases your consumption of carbon dioxide and lowers the consumption of oxygen.

Oxygen is essential for the proper functioning of the body, and so when it becomes low, it puts your brain in peril by harming your brain cells.

Overeating

Overeating not only makes you gain weight, increases your chances of getting life-threatening diseases but also causes major damage to your brain.

Too much food intake hardens the brain arteries, killing your mental abilities in the long run.
