1. Hope Uzodinma (APC, Imo State)

A Businessman turned Politician, Uzodinma began his political career in the Second republic as the Imo State Youth Leader of the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN), in the Third republic, he was a prominent member of the defunct United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP). In 1999, following the return of Democratic rule, Uzodinma joined the People's Democratic Party (PDP) where he held various positions in the National Executive Committee(NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) between 1999 and 2017. The 61year-old Politician contested for the Governorship Seat of Imo State in 2003 and 2006, but lost at both attempts. In 2011, Uzodinma contested and won the Imo West Senatorial Seat under the PDP platform. He won a re-election in 2015.


Later in 2018, he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), and emerged as the party's Governorship Candidate ahead of 2019 Gubernatorial poll. He came a distant fourth behind Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha of the PDP who won the election. Uzodinma challenged ihedioha's victory up to the Supreme Court, in a dramatic twist, In January 2020, the Apex court sacked Ihedioha as Governor of Imo State and declared the Uzodinma as the duly elected Governor of Imo State.

2. Bello Matawalle (PDP, Zamfara State)

The 51year-old politician joined Politics in the third republic as an active member of the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP), he joined the defunct ANPP in 1999, between 1999 and 2003, Matawalle served in various capacities, as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; Commissioner for Environment likewise as the Commissioner for Youths and Sports. In 2003, he contested and won the House of Representatives Seat for Bakura/Maradun Federal Constituency Seat under the ANPP platform, he later defected to the PDP. He was re-elected in 2007 and 2011 under the PDP platform.


In March 2019, Matawalle contested the Zamfara State Governorship Seat but lost to the APC Candidate, Mukhtar Shehu Idris with over 300,000 votes. Due to an internal crisis within the ruling APC, all the party's Candidate in Zamfara State was sacked by court, a Development that led to the emergence of Matawalle as Governor.

3. Duoye Diri (PDP, Bayelsa State)

A trained Political Scientist, Diri contested and won the Bayelsa Central Senatorial Poll under the PDP platform in February 2019, he later emerged as PDP Governorship Candidate ahead of the December 2019 Governorship poll in Bayelsa State. The 61year-old Diri lost the Gubernatorial Election as he was defeated by David Lyon of the APC. Dissatisfied with the outcome of the poll, Diri and his party, the PDP challenged Lyon's victory in court.


In a dramatic twist, a day to the swearing-in of Lyon as Bayelsa State Governor, the December 2019 Gubernatorial Election was declared invalidated by the Supreme Court over an alleged submission of a fake certificate to INEC by the Deputy Governorship Candidate of the APC, the Apex court ordered the swearing-in of Diri as the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State.
