Pregnant Women, others injured as as protest turned violent in Ikorodu

Those who witnessed the incident said the woman was caught in a violent clash between thugs and protesters at Agric bus stop, on the Ikorodu expressway.

Witnesses also alleged that the fracas was between two rival secret cults, Eiye and Aiye Confraternity, who had joined in the protest, which had hitherto been peaceful.

Lagos State police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement issued on Sunday, said the attacks on innocent passers-by and residents of Ogolonto Area in Ikorodu, were caused by violent protesters who threw caution into the wind and suddenly became violent.

#EndSARS: Military should remain in barracks till protests end, CSOs tell FG

On the heels of the on-going nationwide protests, a coalition of civil society organizations yesterday called on the Federal Government to prevail on the Nigerian Army to suspend its planned ‘Operation Crocodile Smile VI’.

This is even as another coalition of labour and civil society groups also cautioned the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai against facing the International Criminal Court, ICC, should any #EndSARS protester be killed by the military.

The activists spoke on a day Osun State governor, Gboyega Oyetola, dismissed insinuations that his convoy was attacked by #EndSARS protesters, attributing the attack to those he described as thugs.

Still on the same issue, the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, argued yesterday that the dissolution of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, would not end police brutality in the country, noting that the development was a sign of a failing state.

Our DJ, four other campaigners killed, allege Osun #EndSARS protesters

One of the leading #EndSARS protesters in Osun State, Omolola Pedro, said five persons lost their lives during the protest in Osogbo, the state capital on Saturday.

Pedro, who disclosed this on Sunday, said apart from the DJ at the event, one Mutiu, Lekan and two unidentified persons also died in the violence that erupted during the protest.

The protest in Osogbo turned violent on Saturday while Oyetola was addressing the protesters at Olaiya Junction. His security men forced the convoy through the crowd while some hoodlums threw missiles at the vehicles.

One person was said to have been shot at Oke Ayepe Area after the incident at Olaiya Junction, as police confirmed two dead during the protest.

IGP lists Qualifications of SWT personnel as training begins


The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu on Sunday confirmed that the new Police Tactical Team would commence training on Monday.

Force spokesman Frank Mba, in a statement, said the IGP reiterated that no personnel of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad would be a member of the new team.

He said those selected for the training were young, smart, and energetic officers with at least seven-year work experience and clean service records with no pending disciplinary matters and no record of violation of rights of citizens or misuse of firearms.

He said they were physically fit to withstand the rigour of SWAT Training and Operations.
